Project: Automated Guided Vehicles AGV
In this project we focused on the design of sheet metal fairings for AGV vehicles. The small number of vehicles produced per year wouldn’t have justified any other production technology. The client expressly requested to maintain a minimal and attractive design line, and this represented a challenge for our designers because sheet metal is notoriously difficult to use for designs with wide radiuses.
The crankcases have been designed as monocoques for quick mounting on the vehicle with only 6 screws per body. The very compact dimensions of the vehicle also determined the minimal line of the design.
The recognizability of the design elements of the bodies have been applied transversely on different models of AGVs in order to maintain the family feeling and recognizability of the brand, building a full line up.
We studied in detail some technical solutions to make sure that the sheets were correctly aligned once welded and in assembly. One of the most recognizable aspects is the lower fairing made as a single piece with the rest of the crankcase to guarantee the right mounting.
